Anti-Racist Leadership: Dress Code Policy Review


Read section 3.1.3 Cultural dress of the Final Report: Community Safety and Well-Being for Black Youth in Hamilton Schools. 

Then read the PVNC Policy 805 Dress Code - Students

Part 1 (30 minutes)

  1. Identify the limitations and inequities that arise in Policy 805.  

  2. Identify an anti-racist approach you can take as a leader to address these inequities. 

  3. Develop recommendations for an alternative policy or practice that takes into account anti-racism.

  4. Collaborate with other teams to seek their feedback and input.


Part 2 (20 minutes)

Present your findings and your recommendations 


Anti-racism is a proactive course of action to identify, remove, prevent, and mitigate the racially inequitable outcomes and power imbalances between dominant and disadvantaged groups and the structures that sustain these inequities. It recognizes the historic nature and cultural contexts of racism, and focuses critically on systemic racism.

Anti-racism aims to ensure the absence of unfair treatment, which includes exclusionary or discriminatory practices.
